Tezpur: A fake traffic police officer was caught while imposing a fine on violators along with real on-duty personnel in Assam's Sonitpur district.
According to reports, the man posing as a traffic police officer came from Guwahati on a bus and got down at Paruwa Chariali in Tezpur city on Saturday.
He then immediately called the policemen who were deployed there ad started checking vehicles that were violating rules.
''He started collecting fines and this led to suspicion to the other junior officer's ad they called their seniors, '' an official was quoted as saying by media reports.
When the senior officials reach the spot, the matter came to light and he was nabbed immediately.
Reportedly, during the investigation, the police personnel came to know that he has applied the same trick in other places such as Rangia and Nagaon to collect money.
''He studied till lower levels and always dreamt of becoming a police officer. So, he started posing as a cop wearing a uniform,'' the official added.
In last year December, in a similar incident, Cachar police arrested a fake police officer on charges of not only forging their identity and duping people in the name of the police.
The accused was identified as Samid Hussain, 22 years old, who was allegedly posing as a police officer in the district's Katigorah.
As per police, he had been extorting money from many by threatening a policeman in Katigorah and Badarpur area in the district.
The accused even posted his picture in a police uniform on social media.
